The Labour market is just not working – ever struggled to get a plumber – they charge the earth and you always have to wait weeks as there are never enough to go round – so why are there seemingly virtually no women working as ‘Plumbers and heating and ventilating engineers’ in the UK (just 1% of the total in 2017 from our analysis of ONS data from the Labour Force Survey). Similarly why is it that 99% of ‘Legal secretaries’ and ‘Dental nurses’ are women ?
