In 2017 women accounted for just 21% of individuals working in the marine sector (in this case defined as: ship building /repair and sea/coastal/inland water transport) compared with 47% within the workforce as a whole. Representation was much higher however in the ‘related industries’ (supply/distribution of seafood/related) at 35%.
