Is the UK being left behind when it comes to gender representation in STEM. Just looking at the latest stats from NCES which show that, not only does the gender balance in STEM subjects in the US (post-secondary awards) look favourable compared to the UK, but also, the situation across the pond has been improving slightly in recent years. OK so educational systems differ I know, but, further analysis of the stats for bachelors and masters degrees (more in tune with the UK system) still shows, in both cases, a favourable level of representation with regards women on STEM courses during the 2016-17 period (36% and 33% respectively). Moreover, in each case again, there has been a slight improvement in the gender balance since 2010/11.
