Sagacity Research analysis of Tech Industry Gold results data

  • by

Sagacity Research were asked by Tech Partnership Degrees to undertake an analysis of the outcomes and destinations of students undertaking employer-accredited Tech Industry Gold degrees, then to compare the results with those for Computer Science students, and those taking other subjects at HE level. Some of the key findings from this analysis were: Female representation amongst Tech Industry Gold graduates was more than twice the level recorded for Computer Science… Read More »Sagacity Research analysis of Tech Industry Gold results data

Gender initiatives and tech study – are they working?

  • by

I am not going to make a call on that one but whilst the latest applications data from UCAS (released today) show some improvement over the past five years in the proportion of applicants (UK domiciled) for Computer Science courses that were female, the gender balance is still below the peak (from data available) experienced in 2010. Moreover, the chart below is just to illustrate the relative change (i.e. indexed)… Read More »Gender initiatives and tech study – are they working?

HE – is it worth it when one in ten graduates are working as Sales Assistants or Retail cashiers

  • by

OK a bit flippant, but around one in ten graduates (8%) can be found entrenched in this type of work despite the hefty premium placed on HE studies – an analysis of ONS Labour Force Survey (2018) data (for; individuals aged 16-24, with HE level qualifications and in post for at least one year shows an abundance of HE qualifiers working in roles that are non-graduate level – notably; 39,000… Read More »HE – is it worth it when one in ten graduates are working as Sales Assistants or Retail cashiers

Why is it that many course developers are still failing to equip students with the skills they need?

  • by

In our recent report for Tech Partnership Degrees: https://lnkd.in/g2x_YAs we undertook a detailed analysis of HESA data looking at various ‘KPI’s the HE sector needs to consider (and act on) when designing/ developing/ administrating under/post grad (or other) provision. The results are profound, and when it comes to preparation for employment for example; medicine & dentistry students rate their courses twice as highly as those from creative arts & design… Read More »Why is it that many course developers are still failing to equip students with the skills they need?

Tech Industry Gold degree analysis

  • by

Delighted to say that we have just produced a new report for Tech Partnership Degrees which uses the latest data from HESA to show how graduates of the employer-accredited Tech Industry Gold degrees are enjoying academic and employment results which far outstrip those associated with other computer science courses, most of the major subject areas at HE level, and HE courses as a whole. The analysis by gender in particular… Read More »Tech Industry Gold degree analysis

Engineering qualifications part 2 – and the situation in Scotland?

  • by

Engineering qualifications part 2 – and the situation in Scotland? not so bad but not inspiring either – for the main qualifications (Nat5/Higher/Advanced Higher) – entries for Engineering Science at least changed little between 2016 and 2018 (2018 being the latest year for which data is available), though over the 2017-18 period there was a 25% fall in related entries for Advanced Highers /10% fall for Highers as shown in… Read More »Engineering qualifications part 2 – and the situation in Scotland?

Is this the end for Engineering GCSEs?

  • by

Latest data from Ofqual shows a 37% decline in the number of entries for GCSE engineering in England over the past year – the number falling to just 2,990 entries for this summer (provisional figures). There has been a steady and fairly pronounced drop each year since 2015 and if this continues on trend then 2020 looks to be the end of the line for this ‘vocationally orientated’ qualification.

Is the UK being left behind when it comes to gender representation in STEM?

  • by

Is the UK being left behind when it comes to gender representation in STEM. Just looking at the latest stats from NCES which show that, not only does the gender balance in STEM subjects in the US (post-secondary awards) look favourable compared to the UK, but also, the situation across the pond has been improving slightly in recent years. OK so educational systems differ I know, but, further analysis of… Read More »Is the UK being left behind when it comes to gender representation in STEM?

The UK maybe a nation of shopkeepers (or at least in Napoleonic times) but few of us are getting trained to do this kind of work

  • by

The UK maybe a nation of shopkeepers (or at least in Napoleonic times) but few of us are getting trained to do this kind of work – On average during 2017, just 5% of shopkeepers and proprietors stated that they had received job-related education/training in the ‘previous 13 weeks’ (i.e. prior to being interviewed) making them the least likely group of workers (for which data are available) to have received… Read More »The UK maybe a nation of shopkeepers (or at least in Napoleonic times) but few of us are getting trained to do this kind of work
